“Teenagers' Convention”:

30 teens from Qwaqwa, 40 teens from Mpumaze and 27 teens from Ermelo making it a total of 97 teens headed to the Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve for our second teenagers' convention that took place from the 5th to the 7th of October. “Extreme Sports Camp”:

40 of our Bushbuckridge beneficiaries spent the month preparing for our second extreme sports camp as part of Module 4 of My Future, My Responsibility (funded by the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund). The purpose of the extreme sports camp is to help our teens know that they can overcome their fears by participating in extreme sports. Children of the Dawn - Our Activities

Mathabatha

Children of the Dawn started its activities in Mathabatha in September 2002 and now sponsors 154 children there.

 

  • 154 children sponsored through Children of the Dawn Mathabatha
  • Aged from 5 to 22
  • 83 boys, 71 girls
  • 81 children orphaned, probably through AIDS, or living with an HIV-positive parent, 74 vulnerable children
  • 11 children moved to the Sunrise Children group

 

 

 

 

  • Schooling: from Crèche to Grade 12 – School fees paid and school uniforms bought

  • 8 aftercare centres: Fanang Diatla centre, Ga-Makgoba centre, Mphaaneng centre, Ga-Mampa centre, Malomanye centre, Bodutlulo centre, Ramonwane centre and Masioneng centre which children attend at least every second day
  • 10 dedicated caregivers rooted in Fanang-Diatla Self-Help Centre
  • Nutrition programme: food parcels, school lunch box programme, feeding scheme at aftercare centres, fortified mealie meal taken at the aftercare centres for health boosting through vitamins and nutrients

  • Life skills education, homework support and extra-mural activities

  • Health, psychological, and emotional support activities

  • Background work to obtain social grants

  • Overnight shelter.
