Frontball Academy Games 2017
For the second year in a row, three Children of the Dawn beneficiaries were invited to take part in the Frontball Academy Games in Biarritz, France from the 2nd to the 10th of July 2017. Our 3 teenagers Nothando (15) and Nokwazi (17) from Ermelo as well as Thabang (16) from Qwaqwa were invited by the Frontball Association based on their playing skills and commitment to the game. They were accompanied by our Frontball coach Nonhlanhla from Qwaqwa, as well Motedi (14) from New Beginningz.
Aside from daily morning training sessions in Frontball, our young travellers experienced a packed schedule of outings, discovering the marvels of this very touristic area of France. They also spent a week mixing with other young Frontball players coming from Argentina, Palestine, Spain and France. There was no lingua franca and there was continuous translation between French, Spanish and English. What a truly awesome experience for our teenagers!
It would be an understatement to say that our teens had the time of their life, especially after the uncertainty and stress that occurred while gathering all the travelling documents and authorisations. Beyond their sporting progress, which was huge as 2 of our 3 players made it to the semi-finals of the competition organised on the last day, our teenagers had to step out of their comfort zone, and experienced a whole new world, which put theirs in perspective.
We are monitoring how they settle back in at home, amidst ongoing material and moral hardships. But we have no doubt that this truly awesome experience will have built a new strength of character and a new outlook on what their future could hold.
