Rope- skipping… or the value of movement!

Through our partnership with Laureus Sport For Good Foundation, Children of the Dawn has been tackling dullness and inactiveness among our beneficiaries, by using rope skipping as a tool. Most of our areas are in remote rural areas with no adequate sporting facilities, and in some cases they venture into unproductive and unlawful activities. Through Rope Skipping we manage to keep our beneficiaries healthy, grounded and active in areas where the importance of movement is hardly discussed.

December Rope Skipping Tournaments

2020 was a very challenging year, and most of our activities could not be implemented due to the government restrictions. Most of our Rope Skipping activities were take home activities, our beneficiaries trained and competed in the safety and comfort of their homes during the lockdown.

In December 2020, COTD centres held local rope skipping competition, which observed strict government Covid-19 regulations. Children in all the areas enjoyed the fun-filled event, and showcased their skipping capabilities, and the winners were awarded with certificates and medals in all the centres. We always try to keep the children engaged, more particularly in the rural areas in order to keep them busy and away from unproductive activities. This has been an awesome way to keep some 250 beneficiaries and their siblings / cousins skipping and engaged!

Christmas Campaign

2020 has been a very testing year for everyone, more particularly our beneficiaries in rural South Africa. Generally, all over the world, Christmas time is for family, and a moment to share joy, love and happiness. Some of our beneficiaries live in abject poverty, and most of them live in child headed households with no possibility for Christmas gifts or anything positively unusual that can brighten their mood on Christmas day. Children of the Dawn successfully embarked on the Christmas campaign for 2020, which started in October 2020.

Our newly appointed intern, Nurain Ahmed led and managed the campaign from start to finish. She managed the entire project effectively in a very innovative manner. She called in few of her friends to volunteer their services in terms of wrapping the presents and allocating them appropriately.

COTD managed to attain 776 gifts in 2020 which is a significant rise of over 200 gifts from what we managed to raise in 2019. The presents were wrapped, packed and sent to the areas on the 9th of December 2020.
