At Children of the Dawn, we believe that young people need opportunities to develop skills beyond the classroom. Through The President’s Award, our beneficiaries take part in a variety of activities that help them build confidence, responsibility, discipline, teamwork and valuable life skills. The programme gives beneficiaries opportunities to learn practical skills such as gardening, baking, plastering, welding, salon skills, painting and car washing. They also take part in activities such as sweeping and washing dishes, which teach them responsibility, independence and the importance of contributing to their surroundings. Community involvement is another important part of the programme. Beneficiaries participate in cleaning their communities, allowing them to give back and make a positive difference in the places where they live. Through these activities, they learn about active citizenship, caring for others and taking pride in their communities.
Physical activity also forms an important part of The President’s Award. Beneficiaries participate in sports such as netball, street soccer, Frontball and rope skipping, as well as activities such as hiking. These activities help young people stay active while developing teamwork, discipline, perseverance, resilience and sportsmanship. Taking part in different activities also allows beneficiaries to discover their interests and strengths. Whether they are learning how to grow vegetables, trying welding for the first time, developing salon skills, playing sport or taking part in a community clean-up, each experience gives them an opportunity to learn something new.
Through The President’s Award, Children of the Dawn is helping young people develop both practical skills and important life skills that can support them at school, at home, in their communities and as they prepare for their futures. We are proud of our beneficiaries for embracing these opportunities, challenging themselves and learning through experience. From practical skills to sport and community service, every activity is helping our young people grow into confident, capable and responsible individuals.
